The Vintage Collection debuted on April 3rd, 2010 with a German Jedi-Con exclusive convention 2-pack, which featured Bounty Hunters 4-Lom and Zuckuss. For The Vintage Collection Hasbro brought back the much loved Kenner packaging-style from the late 70's and 80's with a coffin blister and a character picture next to the figure. The Vintage Collection included Star Wars characters from all Star Wars entertainment, including the prequels, the Clone Wars and Expanded Universe. If Hasbro released a comic book character for example, it would be a realistic interpretation of the character.
The first The Vintage Collection toy line ran from August 2010 until 2013 before it went on a five year break. It then returned to store shelves again in April 2018.

After the original The Vintage Collection ended in 2013, Hasbro took a five year break before bringing it back again in April 2018. For continuity the numbering for the figures in the basic assortment continued with #116.
In 2018 Hasbro began to re-issue previously released The Vintage Collection figures with the same VC number on the back of the packaging as before. Most figures however weren't straight re-packs, they were given significant paint updates especially around the facial area. The packaging was changed from the previous releases which was most noticeably on the back with different figures pictured and updated legal statements.
