The Legacy Collection toy line debuted on July 26, 2008 along with The Clone Wars animated-style toy line, and ended in August 2010.
For The Legacy Collection Hasbro brought back the Build-A-Droid (BAD) concept, which was first introduced in 1979 in the Droid Factory playset. Each carded figure in The Legacy Collection included a droid part, when enough figures in a wave were purchased, a new droid could be built with them. In 2008 Hasbro released six 2-packs as Walmart exclusives. Each set contained a C-3PX droid part. In 2009 Hasbro released five 2-packs, where each set contained a droid part for the Phase III Dark Trooper.
