We've known that S.H. Figuarts versions of C-3PO and R2-D2 would be released for more than half a year, but today Bandai finally announced the official release date and price, and they released new images which highlight the features of both figures.
C-3PO will be released in July for approx. $57 and like all Tamashii Nations S.H. Figuarts Star Wars figures it will be exclusive to Japan. It looks as if the protocol droid's plating was given the vac-metalized treatment, which gives it the shiny and reflective appearance. We are excited to see how many points of articulation Bandai was able to implement into the droid, because we can hardly see any in the promo pictures. The only accessory which we can make out to be included is the comlink, which 3PO used on the Death Star in ANH.
The companion piece to C-3PO, R2-D2, will also be released in July 2017. The astromech droid will cost about $40 and it features opening panels in the front where tools can be pulled out and you can rotate R2-D2's sensors to change the "eye" color to blue, green, yellow, red and white. It's also possible to put R2-D2 into a 3-legged or 2-legged stance. The figure will be exclusive to the Japanese market.
